Grey Gsm Mobile Handset Prices Wilt Under Cdma Heat

The free fall in the grey market prices of GSM mobile handsets continues, even as the Reliance group is set to commercially launch its ambitious limited mobility services based on the CDMA technology.
Over the past three months, prices of GSM handsets of different makes have fallen 10-15 per cent, sources in the grey market said.
According to dealers here, following are the grey market prices of some of the most popular GSM handsets currently sold: Nokia 3315 - Rs 4,900, Nokia 3310 - Rs 4,400, Samsung R220 - Rs 5,800, Siemens A36 - Rs 3,250, Ericsson A3618 - Rs 4,100 and Sony J70 - Rs 4,700. The dealers said the prices of all these models have dropped by at least Rs 500 over the last quarter.

This is much lower than the grey market prices for the same models some time back, and is significantly lower than the retail prices in the organised sector.
