Gujarat Alkalies net up 208%

Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals, among the largest caustic-chlorine manufacturing company has recorded 208 per cent increase in its net profit at Rs 49.53 crore for the quarter ended December 2004 compared with Rs 16.04 crore in the same quarter of previous year.
 
Net income during the quarter under review jumped 22.91 per cent to Rs 305.76 crore compared with Rs 248.75 crore in the quarter ended December 2003. The company's total production has shot up by 11 per cent to 2.94 lakh tonne against 2.65 lakh tonne in the same quarter of previous year.
 
The company has informed that the profit rose owing to improved sales realisation, increase in sales quantity including sale of power to GEB, increase plant load factor of power plant, reduction in the interest and financial charges due to pre-payment of high cost loans and efficient fund management and improvement in the operational efficiency.
