Gujarat to get multiplex

A multiplex operator based out of Mumbai, Cinemax, is set to launch its first multiplex in Gujarat - the Cinemax Starcity. The new multiplex will be open to the audiences on April 27.

The 1,146-seater multiplex was bought by Cinemax sometime back. Cinemax Starcity will also host shows in Gujarati. Starting this week are the two screens (screen 1 capacity of 470 and screen 2 capacity of 388). Screen 3 (capacity 288) will be opened on May 4.

"This would be the first Cinemax multiplex in Gujarat and with this our tally of screens stands at 36. After Himmatnagar, we would now be looking forward to opening multiplexes in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot. With

Cinemax Starcity in Himmatnagar, we are aiming to enter Gujarat, which is a very important market for us," said Devang Sampat, VP-marketing and programming, Cinemax India Ltd.

Sampat further added that the company will Be providing "movie enthusiasts of Gujarat a state-of-the-art entertainment complex.

In all, Cinemax is looking forward to opening 14 more screens in Gujarat by the end of fiscal 2007-08.

Sampat informed that the company is also in talks with several banks and telecom operators for innovative marketing strategies.
