Industry urged to participate in CSR initiatives

BS Reporter New Delhi/ Chandigarh

To help the private sector, especially the Micro and Small Enterprises (MSE), to come forward and join hands for fulfilling corporate social responsibility (CSR), Council for People Advancement of People Action and Rural Technology (Capart) is aiming to strengthen the relationship between civil society organisations (NGOs) and industry.

Capart Director General Mohammed Haleem Khan maintained, Capart was trying to provide a platform to the private enterprises both offline (physical) as well as online where they could link to the third sector, non-governmental organisations.

In addition to organising CSR-CSO Bridge at the national level and zonal level, Capart through its website also offers information as to how industry especially MSE could link to the NGOs which could help them fulfill CSR responsibilities.

In addition to online help, CSR-CSO Bridge is organised whereby efforts are made to link the industry with various NGOs.

Mohammed Haleem Khan was here to participate in the regional CSR-CSO bridge held in Chandigarh today.

Khan maintained, since the government-governed projects take three-steps long process and involve additional costs, from tax collection to disposing budgetary allocation to reaching out through its developmental programs, the direct link between the corporate and civil society is way more efficient.

“More than 75 per cent of the Indian industry are MSEs. Hence, its time that MSEs should come forward to join hands and take up corporate social responsibility as a mandate for their sustainability in the long run. Corporate and individuals have always participated in social development, in the name of charity/ social work. What is needed now is to channelise the efforts and professionally shape these initiatives in a conscious direction,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pehal a dedicated exposition showcasing work of around 20 NGOs was also organised.
