Jupiter Air keen to develop Hassan airport

BS Reporter Chennai/ Bangalore
Jupiter Air Services, a Malaysia-based private airlines, has evinced interest in developing a greenfield airport at Hassan in Karnataka.

The company's proposal to develop the airport in former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's home district came for discussion at Karnataka state cabinet meeting on Thursday.

"We are still working out the terms and conditions with Jupiter Air Services. If the company fulfils the criteria, we will evaluate its bid," Karnataka's home and parliamentary affairs minister MP Prakash told reporters after the meeting.

The airport is coming up on 960 acres, which will be leased to the selected firm for 30 years on a build-own-operate transfer basis.

The cabinet approved the acquisition of land for the project. Already, Rs 10 crore has been released for land acquisition.
