MGE UPS opens India arm

MGE UPS Systems, a subsidiary of Schnieder Electric and one of the largest manufacturers of uninterrupted power supply (UPS) equipment has announced the launch of its subsidiary, MGE UPS Systems India to cater to the South Asian region.
The German firm, which commenced its sales operations in India in 1996 covering 14 cities, will expand to 25 cities by the year-end. It has commissioned 4,000 installations in the IT, hospitality, power and infrastructure sectors so far.
"India's rapid economic growth and expansion of data centres, financial services and industrial businesses is driving the need for reliable power protection. Our success in the last 10 years, coupled with India's power protection market is growing at 20 per cent every year, prompted us to form MGE India," MGE UPS Systems CEO Claude Graff said.
"Though our present marketshare is worth $16 million, we occupy the top position in supplying UPS to the BPO and data servicing centres. We intend to grow at a rate of 40 per cent and emerge as one of the leaders in the UPS industry by 2008," said MGE India managing director Sanjay Sainani stated.
The company sources UPS equipment from its manufacturing plants in China, Europe and the US.
"At present, we do not have any plans for a manufacturing plant in India. We only assemble the equipment here," he added.
