PGVCL creates 'gang' to tackle power failure complaints

In a bid to curb rising power failure complaints in villages and remote areas, Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (PGCVL) has created a new "gang" called 'Mini Maintenance Gang (MMG)' at 97 locations in the Saurashtra and Kutch area.

According to a senior official connected with the project, for the first time in Gujarat, PGVCL has decided to create gang of six persons including technicians and helpers to serve better in village area and cater to their power failure complaints.

"It is hard to reach villages and remote areas for power failure. Hence, we have already identified 97 locations in both regions where specially equipped vehicles with six persons will be deployed. The six persons include one lineman, one assistant lineman and four helpers. We are calling them MMG since they will be working round the clock to attend power supply complaints under their respective areas,'' the senior PGVCL official said.

 

PGVCL is supplying electricity in eight districts, namely Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Porbandar, Surendranagar, Amreli and Kutch. PGVCL has divided these regions into 11 circles, 43 divisions and 220 sub-divisions for effective power distributions.

Despite 220 sub divisions across the region, it is difficult to reach every place in villages. It took some time for PGVCL to solve problems when it received any complaint from remote areas. But with MMG the company hopes to solve these problems in limited time.

For MMG, the company has recruited 580 new employees and is also planning to buy 97 new vehicles with global positioning systems (GPS).

"We will purchase 97 new jeeps for this project with GPS which will help them offer any kind of emergency service," the official added. The company will spend about ' 5 crore for vehicles.
