The International Centre for Entrepreneurship & Technology (iCreate) is a potentially successful model and has to be looked at seriously by other states as well, maintained Narayana Murthy, chairman emeritus, Infosys Ltd. "This is a model that has to be looked at seriously by other states as well. We are progressing on this," commented Murthy during his media interaction in Vadodara on Monday.

It may be noted that iCreate's new campus is coming up in the outskirts of Ahmedabad and is likely to be operational soon. Murthy is the chairperson of iCreate, which is an autonomous centre for excellence with its own incubation centre to promote entrepreneurship.

iCreate, an initiative of Gujarat Foundation for Entrepreneurial Excellence (GFEE),a joint venture of Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limited (GMDC) and Gujarat Entrepreneurship and Venture Promotion Foundation (GEVPF) was launched in September 2011 to create an ecosystem for nurturing and enabling aspiring entrepreneurs. "There is a lot of opportunity for startups in India mainly in the fields of education, healthcare, nutrition, shelter and other such areas. Entrepreneurs have to add value proposition to their ideas so as to take on the competition and let market accept their product," said Murthy.

Murthy was in town to receive the Sayaji Ratna Award, instituted by Baroda Management Association (BMA) to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Sayajirao Gaekwad. Murthy is the first recipient of this award.
