'No additional power cuts please'

BS Reporter Chennai/ Hyderabad

The Confederation of Indian Industry(CII), Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday urged the state government not to resort to more power cuts, stating that any such move will adversely impact the industrial growth.

“We understand that the government may impose further power cuts to industrial sectors to ensure supply to other consumers if the present dry spell continues,” Suchitra Ella, chairperson of the industry body, said in a press release.

The industry is already facing a two-day power holiday in a week, and it cannot bear any further cuts, she said. It is possible to meet the power needs of the industry through proper planning, including the purchase of additional power, according to the CII.

While ensuring continuous seven-hour supply to the agriculture remains an important task, the government should have a thought of generating additional power rather than proposing more cuts to the industry to meet the demand in other sectors, Ella added.
