535 engg colleges to come under Anna University

The Tamil Nadu government will bring around 535 engineering colleges and 12 constituent colleges in Tiruchirapalli, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Chennai and Madurai of the Anna Universities of Technologies under Anna University, Chennai.

Further, regional offices would be set up in Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Madurai for administration and monitoring of the colleges in each of the region. Selection of students for admission would be conducted by Anna University through 17 regional centres, from now on, said a statement by the state government.

The Tamil Nadu University Laws (Amendment and Repeal) Bill 2011, which envisages to merge the five Anna Universities of Technology, with Anna University-Chennai, would come into effect from August 1, 2012.
