Adityapur industrial area lacks planned facilities

Adityapur Industrial Area Development Authority (AIADA), set up in 1966, has failed to commission most of the infrastructure outlined in its original blueprint.
The master plan had provided for an airport, residences, bus depot, railway station, dam, artificial lakes and filtration plant, shopping centre, district hospital, crematorium and graveyard, educational institutions, stadium, green belt, veterinary hospital, animal farm and a wholesale grain, vegetable and fruit market.
The 250-acre housing colony has not received the Jharkhand government's approval though hundreds of applicants had submitted fees for the project. Two complexes, for business and recreation, have not been built owing to a funds shortage.
A 50-acre rehabilitation area has been built at Rapcha for the people displaced by AIADA but no district hospital has been built. The Adityapur Industrial Area (AIA) houses a 100-bed employees state insurance (ESI) hospital.
Land ran short for a stadium, so it has been used instead for a government polytechnic. Some tress have been planted but the planned green belt, woodland and river front recreation facilities have not been built.
The planned airport in the Kanaadih-Sarupdih area has not been made either. However, a 5MGD dam has been constructed at Sitarampur, as also a rail station at Gamharia and a marshalling yard at Adityapur.
AIADA did not as much as it could have because it does not have a township, hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals and recreation areas, said one of the architects of the blueprint. AIADA itself feels the old master plan was flawed.
"Going by the interim master plan would not serve any purpose today. Most of the plans in the acquired area have been implemented," claimed AIADA managing director Vandana Dadel.
On paper, AIADA controlled an area of 33,970 acres, but the total developed area was 2,615 acres with another 4,293 acres of land acquired for development.
