Press Trust Of India Chennai/ Bangalore
The BJP today sought a Rs 1,000 crore interim relief package from the Centre in the wake of unseasonal rains in Karnataka, which left 24 people dead and resulted in extensive loss of crops.

A party delegation, comprising senior party leader H N Ananth Kumar and state unit president D V Sadananda Gowda, met Governor Rameshwar Thakur and submitted a memorandum in this regard.

Speaking to reporters outside Rajbhavan, Ananth Kumar said the unseasonal rains in the last 15 days ravaged horticulture and commercial crops worth thousands of crores of rupees in different parts of the state.

"Prime Minister announced a relief of Rs 500 crore after rains in Mumbai last year. On similar lines, an interim relief of Rs 1,000 crore should be announced for Karnataka," he said.
