Govt plans ordinance to amend Telegraph Act

The government will bring an ordinance to amend the Indian Telegraph Act with a view to bringing mobile telephone services in rural areas under the ambit of the universal services obligation (USO) fund.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the union cabinet today, Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi told reporters here.

The cabinet will shortly send the Indian Telegraph (Amendment) Ordinance 2006 to the President for his assent.
