Haryana discom CMD expresses concern

Expressing concern over the poor financial health of the Haryana state discoms i.e. Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, Devender Singh, CMD of the two discoms , has said finding urgent solutions to the dismal health of distribution utilities is one of the biggest challenges for the power sector in Haryana.

“The companies owe debt of over Rs 19,000 crore. In view of poor return for the companies, the banks had started denying loans to them a year back.”

However, to help improve the financial health of discoms, stategies, according to Devender Singh, has been devised.

 

Under the strategy, he said power engineers and workers of the discoms have been given a responsibility to reduce the cost of supply by 60 paise per unit by reducing the rate of aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses from present 30 per cent to 15 per cent during next three years. Financial restructuring programme has given relief to the discoms from the pressure of payment of loans for three years.
