HP to have only electronic electric meters

BS Reporter New Delhi/ Shimla

Every household in Himachal Pradesh (HP) will soon have an electronic electric meter. “The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board(HPSEB) board meeting has decided to install electronic energy meters in all the 1.2 million households across the state,” said HPSEB Secretary M P Sood.

This process will take three years. The electricity board will soon enter into an agreement with a bank to finance this project.

It was found that so far wherever electronic meters had been installed, the rate of theft of electricity had considerably gone down.

Electricity is one of the cheapest in power surplus HP. The hill state achieved 100 per cent electrification over twenty years ago.

But the board could not come to an agreement about providing at least four CFL bulbs to every household in the state for a period of ten years instead of three years.

Currently, every domestic consumer can replace his defective CFL bulb for a period of three years.
