ICSI to revamp Company Secretary course

Our Regional Bureau Chennai/ Hyderabad
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is undertaking a major revamp of its courses and introducing e-learning and e-governance initiatives.

Addressing a media conference here today, H M Choraria, president of ICSI, said as part of the revamp, the latest developments in corporate governance, including the changes in corporate law, would be incorporated in the current syllabus for the Company Secretary course to equip future company secretaries to take up jobs both in India and overseas.

A task force appointed by the institute in this regard is expected to submit its report by the end of this month to effect the proposed changes, he said.

According to him, a range of short-term refresher courses to the practising company secretaries are also proposed to be launched by the institute shortly.

Apart from this, the institute would equip students to adapt to the paperless governance as enunciated by the ministry of company affairs.

He said ICSI was also working on an e-learning project, which would enable students to access contents and other training aspects of company secretary courses online besides attending periodical tests online.

This was in line with the institute's efforts to reach out to students in semiurban and smaller towns in the country, he added.

ICSI had entered into an MoU with the National Institute of Small Industry Extension Training to extend their partnership in research programmes and sharing of research material for three more years, he said.
