Krishna chairs poll management panel meeting

Press Trust Of India Chennai/ Bangalore
The Congress today appealed to party workers to cooperate and ensure party's victory with comfortable majority in the coming Karnataka assembly elections.

"Wherever differences are there, we have to set them right. Leaders in all the districts, Election Management and Coordination Committee Chairman S M Krishna told a press conference after a formal meeting of the committee.

His appeal comes in the wake of rush for tickets for the May elections and incidents of clashes in some districts. "Congress is a big party. It is quite natural for rush for tickets. There are some minor incidents and need not be magnified", he said referring to fisticuffs among congress activists in some districts.

At the meeting attended by KPCC President M Mallikarjun Kharge, Campaign Committee Chief Siddaramaiah and Manifesto Committee head C K Jaffer Sharief it was decided that the party should soon launch a campaign to cover all areas within short time, he said.

Krishna, who had embarked upon "Panchajanya" yatra in 1999 elections in which he successfully led the Congress to victory however, ruled out going on a similar campaign trial now as there was not much time available.

"We have to speed up our preparations. We will soon decide on launching campaign", he said.
