MP to set up health university

Press Trust Of India New Delhi/ Bhopal
The Madhya Pradesh government is planning to set up a health university to facilitate education and research on different forms of medicine and ways of healthy living.

Apart from imparting education on all forms of medicine, allopathy, ayurveda, unani and homoeopathy, it will also focus on educating students on alternative forms like naturopathy, accupressure, accupuncture and ways to healthy living through yoga, state Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi told reporters here today.

The matter was under government's consideration after a suggestion was received from participants at a three-day seminar on steps to healthy living, he said.

The participants also suggested inclusion of yoga and other methods to healthy life in school curriculum, he said.

The government has formed a separate body 'Bhartiya Swasthya Chintan', under the health department to explore further possibilities of healthy living and ensure documentation of research carried out by experts, Vishnoi said adding Rs 3 lakh had been allocated for it.

To a query, he said the Medical Council of India would be contacted to know whether ayurveda could be included in MBBS curriculum.
