Srmb To Set Up Steel Unit At Durgapur

SRMB Udyog Limited, formerly The Steel Rolling Mills of Bengal Ltd, is planning to set up a new unit in Durgapur for an investment of around Rs 20 crore.

Ashish Beriwala, director SRMB Udyog, said the unit would have a capacity of 70,000 tonne of TMT bars and light structurals. Presently, SRMB has a capacity of 30,000 tonne.

The investment would be funded by internal resources and financial institutions. The plant would be commissioned next year.

The move was aimed at cashing in on the opportunity in the domestic market, which was on an expansion mode. Since last financial year, prices of TMT bars have increased by almost 30 per cent.

 

SRMB also exports TMT bars of around $1 million. However, even post-expansion the company plans to focus on the domestic market with several infrastructure projects coming up. Going forward, the company expects further appreciation in prices.

Meanwhile SRMB has developed a new design of the rib pattern of the SRMB TMT bars to yeild more bonding and gripping on the bar with cement mortar. This has around 50 per cent better grip over concrete than the company
