Hsbc To Recruit 1900 In India By End 03

The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd (HSBC) will recruit 1,900 people in India by the end of 2003 to handle select back-office operations for overseas group subsidiaries, said Malcolm Wagget, chief operating officer, HSBC Electronic Data Processing India Pvt Ltd (HDPI).
"By the end of 2003, HDPI will add 300 persons to the two group service centres at Hyderabad and 1,600 at the Bangalore center," Wagget said at the inaugural function of HSBC's Futura office in Bangalore.
Chief executive officer of HSBC India Zarir J Cama said HDPI would handle select back-office processing for group subsidiaries based in the US and UK.

"Soon, HDPI will cater to the Middle-East and Singapore," he said. According to Cama, HSBC will soon add new branches at Jaipur and Jalandhar, taking the bank's total number of branches to 33.
Inaugurating HSBC's Futura office, Karnataka chief minister S M Krishna said his government would implement the McKinsey report which had drawn up a road map on how to create one million jobs in knowledge-based industries in the state in the next 10 years.
