Re firms up to 43.42/$, gilts steady

The rupee rose to a new 3-month closing high of 43.42 per dollar today.

Government securities moved in a range-bound mode with prices across maturities trading in a band of 7-10 paise.

While the 10-year paper closed on a flat note at an yield of 7.22%, the 12- year paper closed at an yield of 7.45%.

Call rates were at 4.90-5%, and reverse repo bids totalled Rs 24,600 crore.
