Electronic payments provider PayPal today said it had appointed Lawrence Chan as vice president covering its Asia Pacific new ventures as well as general manager for PayPal's Southeast Asia and India business. The move is expected to help PayPal to beef up its mobile and online payments business in the region.

Based in Singapore, Chan will lead the regional business strategy, sales, partnerships and merchant adoption of PayPal’s newest payment innovations to transform commerce, from mobile to digital goods to PayPal here", PayPal said in a statement.

"He will also be responsible for developing PayPal into an online and mobile payments leader, as well as expanding the company’s geographic reach, in the exciting, fast-growing domestic and cross-border trade markets of Southeast Asia and India," PayPal said. Chan will report to PayPal’s vice president of Asia, Rohan Mahadevan.

Prior to joining PayPal, Chan spent 10 years at American Express International in various regional and international leadership roles, most recently, as the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Global Payment Option (Asia, Europe & Africa).
