Sugar spurts on festive offtake

Sugar prices rose at the Vashi Wholesale market here today due to heavy stockists as well as domestic demand ahead of festivals.

Small sugar quality (S-30) strengthened by Rs 18/39 per quintal to Rs 2,748/2,800 from last Saturday's closing level of Rs 2,730/2,761.

Medium sugar quality (M-30) also firmed up by Rs 20/26 per quintal to Rs 2,776/2,831, as against Rs 2,750/2,811 of last weekend.

The following are today's closing rates per quintal, with the previous rates in brackets:  
Small sugar (S-30) quality Rs 2,748/2,800 (Rs 2,730/ 2,761) and medium sugar (M-30) quality Rs 2,776/2,831 (Rs 2,750/2,811)
