54 pct jump in allocation to provide connectivity to hilly states and northeast regions

The Railways has allocated an outlay of Rs.5,116 crores for projects in the North-East. This is 54 percent jump over allocations in the previous year.

Presenting the Railway Budget for 2014-15 in Parliament today, Minister of Railways D. V. Sadananda Gowda said there are 23 projects underway in the Northeast, of which 11 are National Projects.

The Minister expressed the hope that Dudhnoi-Mendipathar New Line; Lumding-Badarpur-Silchar Gauge Conversion; Harmuti-Murkongselek and Balipara- Bhalukpong sections will soon get commissioned.
