Afghanistan urges Pak to play 'visible' role in initiating peace talks with Taliban

Afghanistan has reportedly urged Pakistan to play a more "visible" role in bringing the Afghan Taliban to the negotiation table indicating that Kabul still believes that Islamabad holds the key to "an elusive peace deal."

The request came from the new dispensation headed by President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer Dr Abullah Abdullah, reported The Express Tribune.

The change of administration in Kabul after a decade is being seen as a fresh start for both neighbours to move away from an "acrimonious relationship" founded on mistrust to one built on mutual cooperation.

However, that cooperation seems to be hinged on Pakistan's role in facilitating a peace agreement between Afghanistan and militants.
