Australia and Japan, becoming allies in a special relationship, will join up with the United States in a strong military alliance.

According to reports, the alliance is aimed at reducing China's influence in the area.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe vowed to start a partnership in Canberra that would maintain the rule of law, peace and prosperity.

Prime Minister Abe said that Japan would work to build international order that would maintain the rule of law.

The Japanese PM added that a defense technology agreement would be the founding step towards healthy relations in future.

Japan's security plan made Australia a central plank according to Mr. Abe's speech, said Hugh White, Strategic analyst and head of the Defence and Strategic Studies Centre at the Australian National University.

White added that Japan was trying to build a regional alliance against China, reports news.com.au.
