Bangladesh summons Myanmar envoy over Rakhine politician's remarks

Bangladesh has summoned Myanmar envoy Myo Myint Than after Rakhine Affairs Minister U Zaw Aye Maung blamed economic opportunities and high population growth in Bangladesh for illegal migration.

According to The Daily Star, U Zaw's comments came at a briefing in Yangon.

U Zaw said that many migrants claim to be from Myanmar for "political reasons".

He said blamed Bangladesh's large increase in population for less economic opportunities there.

U Zaw spoke at the briefing, which focused on the two rescue missions recently conducted by the Myanmar navy.
