Chinese president Xi urges military to expand training in national interest

Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged the nation's military to make greater efforts in training troops and in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development.

He gave the statement on his visit to a training session of China's first aircraft carrier, Liaoning, which was launched in September 2012, China Daily reports.

Xi, who is also chairman of the Central Military Commission and general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, watched carrier-borne aircraft take off and land at the People's Liberation Army navy training base, the report added.

Xi applauded the pilots' performance and flights skills under complicated weather conditions.

 

Earlier, China claimed of adding more aircraft carriers to their navy depending on their defence requirements.
