Meryl Streep to star as opera legend Maria Callas in HBO film

Meryl Streep will play legendary opera singer Maria Callas in a HBO film that will be based on the Tony-winning 1995 play by Terrence McNally.

The HBO film will reunite Streep with director Mike Nichols, with whom she collaborated on the films 'Silkwood', 'Heartburn' and 'Postcards from the Edge', the BBC reported.

The 65-year-old actress also appeared in Nichols' HBO mini-series 'Angels in America'.
