Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majid Memon on Friday questioned Vinod Rai's claims about former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, saying the former CAG had done a disservice by keeping quiet for so long.
"The 2G case has been ongoing for years. If there is truth in what he is saying then Vinod Rai has done a disservice by keeping quiet," Memon told ANI here.
"Why didn't he speak till now? Was he waiting for someone's invitation or was he waiting for the government to change?" he asked.
The former CAG had in an interview to Times Now alleged that former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was aware of major scandals as they unfolded. He claimed that Dr. Singh was alerted by his senior Cabinet Minister about the 2G scam.
Rai has alleged that Dr. Singh took no corrective measures to avert loss to the exchequer despite being aware of the actions of the various ministries and many Cabinet Ministers bringing the irregularities to his notice.
Congress leader P C Chacko, however, asserted that it was unfair on the former CAG's part to harp on the same thing, knowing he is accusing a person whose public life is spotless.
"There were several letters sent by A Raja to Dr. Singh and they were also replied to. But Vinod Rai is not mentioning all of that. He is giving a one-sided story," Chacko added.
