In the wake of increasing incidents of acid attacks in Uttar Pradesh, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has urged Director General of Police (DGP) O. P. Singh to enforce a ban on the sale of acid in the state.
The proposal came after the commission took notice of the media report captioned "Greater Noida: Two men push sister out of the car, throw acid at her" which appeared in various national dailies on Wednesday.
"Considering the gravity of the matter, it is requested that action be taken to enforce the ban on the sale of acid in the state and a detailed action taken a report in the matter may be sent to the commission at an early date." the commission said in its letter to the DGP. "The commission is disturbed by the rise in the acid attack in the state of Uttar Pradesh," the letter further read.
Meanwhile, a team of NCW officials visited the 22-year-old woman who was reportedly attacked with acid by her two brothers. The woman was later dumped in Kot Village here, the commission said.
