Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed his finance and justice ministers from office and has dissolved the parliament, seeking an early general election, a report said.

Netanyahu accused Yair Lapid and Tzipi Livni of "harshly attacking" him and the coalition government and of behaving "irresponsibly" at the national level. He also said that their activities were motivated by political interest, reported the BBC.

He added that he wanted an election two years ahead of schedule to "win a clear mandate" to lead Israel because it was "impossible" to lead the nation with the current coalition. He described Livni and Lapid's activities as a "putsch."

Disagreements over a series of economic and political policies have impacted relations within the coalition government.
