North Korea has proposed to conduct a joint inquiry with the United States into the Sony Pictures' cyber attack, denying U.S. claims that the country was behind the hack.

North Korean foreign ministry has accused the U.S. of "spreading groundless allegations" that would be refuted by a joint inquiry, reported the BBC.

A U.S. spokesperson said that North Korea must accept "culpability", without addressing Pyongyang's idea.

Sony has cancelled the Christmas release of The interview and the company claimed that it was considering to release it on a different platform.

The FBI said on Friday that North Korea had launched last month's cyber attack wherein information including script details and private emails were leaked.
