US President Barack Obama and his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro have symbolically ended more than a half-century of official estrangement between the United States and Cuba in a meeting that Obama said put them on "a path toward the future".

According to News24, Obama declared his refusal to refight the Cold War battles of the past.

Obama said that the US is "looking to the future" and would not be imprisoned by the past.

Castro said that many US presidents were at fault for the troubled US-Cuban history and that Obama was not one of them.
