SC asks Sidhu to face trial in 2009 LS poll case

The Supreme Court on Wednesday the trial of the election petition filed by Om Prakash Soni would go and cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu would have to face a trial by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a case in which his election in 2009 has been challenged by Soni, a rival candidate.

Soni alleged that Sidhu had got officers of his choice while contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Amritsar constituency on May 13, 2009 as the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate.

Sidhu, 53, had appealed against a Punjab and Haryana High Court's decision asking him to face trial in the case.
