Post his French Open victory, Stan Wawrinka has climbed up to the fourth spot in the recent ATP world rankings.

The Swiss, who defeated world number one Novak Djokovic 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in a thrilling final at Roland Garros on Sunday, has moved up five places and now sits one place below his career best, the BBC reported.

However, the top three of Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray remains unaltered, while Japan's Kei Nishikori rounds out the top five in the ATP rankings. Rafael Nadal, who was beaten in the quarter-finals, has dropped from seventh to the 10th spot.

Meanwhile, in the women's rankings, Czech Lucie Safarova, who was defeated in the French Open final by Serena Williams, has climbed up to a career-best rank seven in the WTA rankings.

Serena Williams remains on top, while Petra Kvitova has replaced Maria Sharapova in the number two slot.

The Russian drops to number four behind Romania's Simona Halep, while Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark remains at number five.
