Metal stocks plummet
Metal stocks were trading in red, with the S&P BSE Metal index decreasing 268.53 points or 2.59% at 10095.82 at 13:48 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Metal index, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (down 4.26%), Steel Authority of India Ltd (down 3.62%),Vedanta Ltd (down 3.59%),Tata Steel Ltd (down 3.42%),JSW Steel Ltd (down 3.42%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were NMDC Ltd (down 3.03%), Hindalco Industries Ltd (down 2.9%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (down 1.4%), and Hindustan Zinc Ltd (down 1.32%).
On the other hand, Coal India Ltd (up 0.23%), turned up.
At 13:48 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 296.65 or 0.71% at 41316.54.
The Nifty 50 index was down 81.25 points or 0.66% at 12167.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 56.84 points or 0.38% at 14902.8.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 21.51 points or 0.42% at 5125.45.
On BSE,1078 shares were trading in green, 1280 were trading in red and 161 were unchanged.
