Rabi crop sowing touches 520.07 lakh hectares as on 25 December

Area sown to pulses and coarse cereals rises over previous year

As per the Ministry of Agriculture, the area sown to Rabi crops stood at 520.07 lakh hectares (lh) as on 25 December compared with 540.17 lh touched same time a year ago. The area sown to pulses and coarse cereals has increased over previous year, but that under wheat, rice, and oilseeds has declined in the current season.

Wheat has been shown in 259.37 lh as on 25 December against 279.60 lh last year on this date.

The area under rabi rice was lower at 12.17 lh as on 25 December compared with 13.62 lh same time last year.

 

The area under coarse cereals increased to 52.94 lh, compared with 47.83 lh same time last year.

The area sown to pulses improved to 125.95 lh as on 25 December, from 124.77 lh same time a year ago.

The area sown to oilseeds witnessed decline to 69.64 lh as on 25 December from 74.35 lh a year ago.
