Congress welcomes Modi's swearing-in invite to SAARC leaders

The Congress Wednesday welcomed BJP's prime minister-designate Narendra Modi's move to invite leaders of SAARC countries for his swearing-in due May 26.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters, "There is no question of not welcoming" the move.

"These are the PM's prerogatives and certainly we are not here to interfere with the prerogatives of the PM. It is a part of governance. It is early days yet. We wish well if something good happens. We will be very happy," he said.

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation comprises Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
