Over a dozen armed robbers barged into a farmer's house, tied the husband and wife before escaping with Rs 85,000 in cash and jewellery, police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Sultanpur locality in Murad Nagar area.

The police said the criminals, armed with iron rods, pistols and knives, scaled the wall of the house and pounced on Narendra Chaudhary and his wife. The couple was tied up with electricity wires.

The milkman untied them in the morning and summoned a doctor and the police.

An anguished Narendra Chaudhary told IANS that the robbers took away Rs 85,000 in cash and snatched his wife's jewellery.

"The modus operandi suggests that the criminals were from the tribal Bawaria community. They will be arrested soon," said Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna.
