At least six Palestinians were injured Friday when Israeli forces opened fire near Israel's border with eastern Gaza, medics and eyewitnesses said.

According to Ashraf al-Qaida, spokesman for the Gaza-based health ministry, six young Palestinian men were injured by Israeli gunfire in the eastern part of Jabalia near the border with Israel.

Witnesses said dozens of young men, waving Palestinian flags gathered near the border with Israel, adding that they also chanted slogans against Israel and threw stones at the Israeli soldiers.

The soldiers then opened fire to disperse the men and six were shot and wounded by live ammunition, witnesses said.

Every Friday, dozens of youth gather near the border between eastern Gaza Strip and Israel to protest against the ongoing Israeli blockade imposed on the enclave since 2007.

Meanwhile, Israeli Radio reported Friday that a makeshift rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel, causing no damage. No one has claimed responsibility for the rocket attack.
