A man has been arrested for killing his physically handicapped friend and his mother Sep 12 at their home in Rohini after he failed to recover the money he had lent them, police said Wednesday.
Sanjay Kumar, 33, was arrested near Japanese Park in west Delhi's Rohini Tuesday for killing Jitender Prakash Mishra, 40, and his 62-year-old mother Sep 12 at their house in Sector-5, Rohini.
Kumar, who resides in Sector-6, Rohini, told police that he committed the murders for Rs. 32,000 and some gold jewellery he had given to Mishra as loan in early 2014.
"In spite of repeated requests, the deceased did not return Kumar's money. Meanwhile Kumar went in deep financial debt and borrowed money from several people who were pressurising him to return their money," Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Ashok Chand said.
The official said that Kumar went to Mishra's house on the fateful night with a bottle of whiskey and they consumed alcohol. "Kumar killed the victim when he again expressed his inability to return his money," the official said.

"Kumar stabbed Mishra with a kitchen knife and throttled him. Meanwhile, Mishra's mother came on the scene and Kumar assaulted her with a wooden block and suffocated her. In order to ensure that both of them were dead, he picked up a gas cylinder and hit both of them on the head. He then ransacked the house to give it a look of robbery," said the official.
The bottle of whiskey recovered from the spot gave a hint to the investigators that a known person was behind the murder, said the official.
Police said that the deceased came in contact with Mishra in 2007 through a common friend and gradually they became friends.
