Apropos the editorial "Pink and Saffron" (April 11), we should not be worried about callous statements such as the one made by Bharatiya Janata Party's Narendra Modi on meat production. Political parties now show better understanding of practical situations and are good at changing their stance depending on the time and environment. In the meantime, the business sector should strive to improve not only its quality, but also its packaging and branding. The packaging should contain detailed information of the product by maintaining the specific requirements of the region where the product is targeted.
A couple of areas where the farm sector needs immediate support are logistics and storage. Most of the farm products become unusable when the storage facilities are not good or when the logistic infrastructure is not adequate for timely transportation. Smooth customs clearance, a single-window approval and an easy documentation process would further add to the business growth. The farm sector is one area where we cannot afford to lose our sheen since it is closely related to health and hygiene. Once the faith is lost, it would lead to long-term irreparable damages.
