Losing attention

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership, which wanted to project a united face at the recently concluded national executive meet in New Delhi, faced a tough time to keep the chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, especially Gujarat’s, in good humour. The problem started when senior BJP leader Vijay Goel said people talked about development in Gujarat, but Madhya Pradesh was commendable with an 18 per cent agricultural growth rate. Another leader said Himachal Pradesh had won a total of 72 awards. Hence, in an effort to project other CMs on a par with Narendra Modi, the BJP leadership ended up sidelining the Gujarat CM, who had hogged the limelight in the previous national executive in Mumbai.
