2 elderly women found dead, one injured in house in Hooghly

Two elderly women were found dead while another critically ill at a house today in Uttarpara area of Hooghly district of the state.

A youth, yet to be identified, has been detained from the spot and being interrogated, a senior police officer said.

The two women, Gita Sen (74) and Kaberi Sen (54) were found with their throats slit on the roof and second floor room of the three-storied residential house, the officer said.

Gita's daughter-in-law Moumita (in her 20s) was found in another room with her throat partially slit. She was rushed to a hospital, the officer said.

After the locals created an uproar discovering the bodies, police reached the spot and apprehended a youth who was leaving the house, the officer said.
 

Gita, a widow, had been living in the house with her only daughter Kaberi and grandson's family.

The grandson Debashis, only male member of the family was an IT professional and away at office. Debashis and Moumita's 11-month old baby boy was safe.

"We are exploring all possible angles including property issues," the police officer said.

The murders left a trail of shock in the middle class locality of the suburban town.
