Nine inmates of the district jail, who were booked among others for allegedly damaging furniture, violence and threatening jail staff, have been shifted to separate prisons here, officials said today.

Nine inmates, including Vivek, from whom a mobile phone and a sim card were recovered, were shifted to different jails in neighbouring districts yesterday on the order of District Magistrate A K Singh, Jail Superintendent Rakesh Singh said.

Jitender was shifted to Baghpat jail, Kapil to Meerut jail, Sachin and Akshay to Bijnore jail, and Tipu Sultan, Gaurav and Ashu to Saharanpur jail, he said.

A case was registered against the eight inmates and 25 unidentified prisoners of the district jail yesterday.

The unruly inmates had allegedly gathered near the main gate of the jail and damaged furniture on Friday, the official said.

The situation was brought under control after police and jail staff rushed to the spot.

Security has been tightened in jail after the incident, the officer added.
