'Abusive' MLA Ramesh Kadam gets one-day police remand

Maharashtra MLA Ramesh Kadam was today remanded in police custody for one day by a court in Mumbai in connection with a case registered against him for allegedly abusing police officials outside a jail here recently, an official said.

Kadam, arrested for his involvement in an alleged scam at Annabhau Sathe Backward Classes Development Corporation, of which he was the chairman.

An offence was registered at Nagpada police station against Kadam for allegedly abusing on duty police personnel and misbehaving with them recently when he was to be taken for a routine medical check-up to JJ Hospital.

Nagpada police today took Kadam's custody from Arthur Road jail and produced him before the court, which remanded him in one-day police custody.
 

"We produced him before the court in evening. We will take his custody again tomorrow as per the direction of the court," said Sanjay Baswat, senior inspector, Nagpada police station.

After a video of Kadam abusing the police personnel went viral, Mumbai police commissioner Datta Padsalgikar ordered a high-level enquiry under a DCP and sought a report.
