An Afghan student of an engineering college here was allegedly assaulted by three Indian students, following which both sides have filed cases against each other, police said today.

The police registered a case and a counter case against three Indian students as well as the Afghan student after they allegedly assaulted each other on the campus of an engineering college at Ibrahimpatnam here.

The incident took place when Sansoor, a 21-year-old first-year BTech Afghan student at the college, was returning to his hostel after classes, police said.

Three Indian students namely Ranvir Singh, Vijay, and Virat, all second-year BTech students, went towards Sansoor. Ranvir shook his hand but allegedly "crushed" his palm in the process, Ibrahimpatnam police station Inspector Mohammed Ghouse said, based on a complaint.

After this, Sansoor and Ranvir, who was allegedly in an inebriated condition, beat up each other even as Vijay as well as Virat joined in beating up the Afghan student.

However, Sansoor took out a scale and hit Ranvir's head and face, the police officer said, based on another complaint.

After the students complained, the police booked a case and a counter case against all of them under Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and began a probe.
