With International Women's Day approaching, leading industry body Assocham today proposed a series of programmes aimed at empowering them.
Newly-appointed chairperson of Assocham's Women Council and famed beautician Keya Seth said the chamber would approach the West Bengal government with some proposals shortly.
Assocham, she said, favours the idea of introducing pink autos for the safety of women commuters in Kolkata.

These autos would be painted pink and the woman driver would be also dressed in a pink outfit, she said adding active cooperation by the state government in this regard would make the initiative fruitful.
The other initiative mulled creating new ITIs meant only for women for which the state government would be approached.
Seth said these initiatives would create job opportunities for women and help them make a living.
Assocham was also contemplating empowering women in rural areas as well, she said adding that the chamber would also guide them on developing a business model.
