Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said a project to effectively tackle the problem of waterlogging would be launched in the state within a month.

The project, estimated to cost Rs 3,277 crore, would be completed before the onset of next monsoon season, he told gatherings during the Sangat Darshan programme in his Lambi assembly segment here.

A scheme would also be launched to promote fish farming and eucalyptus planting in waterlogged areas, Badal said.

Waterlogging had caused extensive damage in various parts of the state, the Chief Minister said.

The state government would bear the entire cost of eucalyptus planting and its maintenance for a year after which it would be handed over to farmers, he said.

To another question, Badal said the state government would give 50 per cent subsidy to women for setting up the dairy units in the state.
